When I relaunched this site, I said it would be a place to dump thoughts on whatever happened to be on my mind.
That was intentionally vague.
I could probably make this easier on myself by declaring that Blake.pm is a technology blog. Technology is certainly going to show up here a lot. I’ve spent most of my professional life working with it, I enjoy it outside of work, and I have opinions.
So there will probably be plenty about infrastructure, cybersecurity, AI, consumer technology, and whatever new piece of hardware or software has managed to capture my attention.
I’m especially interested in AI right now. Not just which model scores highest on which benchmark, but how these tools change the way people actually work. I’ve been experimenting with coding agents, local models, and AI-assisted development while building this site, so I’m sure some of that will find its way here.
But I don’t really want this to be a technology blog.
At least not exclusively.
I like video games. I watch movies and television. I read books. Occasionally one of those things sticks with me long enough that I want to say something about it.
I’ve spent years managing people and technology teams, which means I’ll probably write about leadership, organizations, decision-making, and the strange intersection between technical problems and human ones.
I’m also a husband and a father. My faith is important to me. Those parts of my life are considerably more personal than whether I like the latest iPhone, and I’m not entirely sure what writing about them here will look like. But I don’t want to rule them out either.
I suppose I expect I will stick to well trodden ground for myself but I don’t want to choose a niche.
I don’t need to worry about an algorithm. There’s no content strategy or publishing schedule.
It’s just a website with my name on it and a place to write when I think I have something worth writing down.
Some posts might be long. Some might be a few paragraphs. Some might be reviews, links, photos, or notes. Some might be deeply technical. Others might have absolutely nothing to do with technology.
For now, I think the theme is simply this:
These are things I found interesting enough to think about twice. That seems like a good enough reason to write them down.
